April 2023 Statistic Skirt Lift

I’ll Show You Mine

I had some interesting numbers last month.

I was able to make over $100 for the first time on this platform.

I don’t sell Etsy courses. I don’t have a writer’s group to promote, a freebie email address grab, so I can pilfer ideas, etc.

Hell, I don’t even put affiliate links in my articles . . . yet. I just write.

I have been writing as a hobby for little over a year and have accumulated 63 articles averaging around 1,200 words each.

I home school six kids, am preparing to buy my first business, work a part time remote job, and try to keep everyone in my household fed, cleaned, and relatively sane while keeping the rabbits out of my garden.

The tail end of February picked up pace due to a memoir I had written which gathered traction at the beginning of March. Having never had this happen before, it was exciting to watch.

As you can see, I average, on a normal day, 20 to 40 views. This article skyrocketed me into the daily 100s. I’ve never had an article reach over a 1,000 views but that’s exactly what happened.

Below is the screenshot of the article to blame.

I doubled down, and wrote more memoir pieces circulating around the infidelity topic. I tried to make my headlines as enticing as possible to the point of cringing. To my surprise, these articles were all in my top 5 for the month.

I proceeded to work hard on my hooks to make them a continuation of my headline. This appeared to give me more read time.

More read time = more money.

I not only worked on my writing last month but began editing older pieces. This strategy may not have garnered more readers but was quite revealing as far as my writing skills. Let’s just say, I need to keep editing.

Other New Tactics

I started on Pinterest this month. While it didn’t bring in buckets readers, it did increase my article views. My pins averaged about 200 for March. It seems to have helped even if minutely. I will continue with Pinterest. It takes a mere second to create a pin. Definitely worth the ROI.

I you aren’t familiar, above is a screenshot of my Pinterest Analytics dashboard. It shows how many interactions and clicks your pins are getting.

If we take a look at my Medium views for March 19th, you will find a similar spike in views on the same day.

My top earning article with the salacious headline brought in over 1.8k views. I rarely have an article gain enough attention that I am able to see from where and how my readers are finding me. I self publish, so this is quite helpful.

It appears as though someone shared my article via email or dm and wham! Instant views on March 19th.

I have been working hard to polish my articles for a publication. I am thankful I haven’t rushed this with all the pressure on Medium to do so. My writing has lacked, in the past, finesse and clarity.

These early articles have made it fun to play with my voice and develop different character tones. I look forward to developing these into characters in my fictional stories. I also publish my poetry on Simily and hope to divulge in that more this month while expanding to include short stories as well.

Lastly, while I haven’t updated my official website for my missing father, I have reintroduced my Blogger that I wrote on ages ago. I was noticing that one of my articles on fasting was getting around 400 to 500 views from outside sources, namely Google searches. I figured I would update my blog and see if I could funnel some of those views to bring in some Adsense funds. I have yet to move over all of my fasting articles. They need intense editing and attention. We’ll see how this strategy goes in the following months.

I find stats articles to be quite helpful when writer’s are transparent with their views and tactics.

It helps all of us in real time. The internet, Medium, the global economic climate is constantly changing. You can’t get this kind of pertinent information from a writer’s course.

I ended last month with a grand whopping total of $203.73. It’s my first time in the triple digits. Please excuse my excitement.

This helped me in the last 30 days, not last year.

And, I hope this will help some of you.

Happy Writing!
